Carlsbad Couple Portraits :: Film is Not Dead :: Part 3

Braedon and Lindsey must have imagined this scenic location because they totally dressed up to coordinate with it!   The colors were simply gorgeous on this warm summer day in Carlsbad, a city located in Northern San Diego County.

Day 3 was the last day of the Film is Not Dead workshop.  The sun came out and we were challenged with it. Normally open shade is our very dear friend but without much shade around, we faced the lighting at hand to photograph this lovely married couple.

These couple portraits were shot with Fuji Pro 400H on my Minolta Maxxum 500si with a 50mm f1.8 lens.  This camera was the first Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera I owned. Before shooting with a DSLR, this was my main camera.  It hasn’t been used much the past few years so it was nice shooting with it again.

Jm Lee - These photos are gorgeous! You found a wonderful balance of lighting and color in these pictures. And I love the way you positioned the people. Natural, yet elegant poses! Great work Angie!

Cielo - Love the one on the grass!

Solana Beach Couple Portraits :: Film is Not Dead :: Part 2

Film Is Not Dead - San Diego

The marine layer was in full effect in Solana Beach. It created a soft, diffused light without sacrificing comfort! The weather was warm, just like Alexis and Andrew, a happily married couple kind enough to model for us at Jonathan Canlas’ Film is Not Dead workshop.

These photos were shot with Fuji Pro 400H on my Minolta Maxxum 500si with a 50mm f1.8 lens.

Solana Beach Engagement Portraits :: Film is Not Dead :: Part 1

With the digital age in full swing, is film ancient history? I’m telling you – it is not!

Film is Not Dead is a workshop by Jonathan Canlas (kahn las’) – a 100% film shooter. I am a great admirer of his work. He brought his workshop to San Diego for 3 days. It was a great opportunity to learn from him and my peers in my hometown.

These photos were shot with Fuji Pro 400H on my Minolta Maxxum 500si with a 50mm f1.8 lens. I was trained on film but the past 3 years or so, my film camera was tucked away, overshadowed by my Canon 5D. I want to get back into film and incorporate it in my work. For the first 2 days, my 5D stayed behind. It was strange and refreshing at the same time.

Shay and Randy are an engaged couple and they flew in from Utah to model for us. Their style was different from the other couples. It was great to find a location to compliment them.
